With the Droid Inventor Kit, kids can build and bring to life their very own Droid. It was created in partnership with Lucasfilm, and won the “Creative Toy of the Year” award in 2018.
This kit was developed as part of the Disney Accelerator program, where I had the privilege of working with Disney, Lucasfilm, and ILM teams, to create an innovative product that faithfully represented the Star Wars brand, and pushed the mission of getting more kids into STEAM.
Role: Senior Product Designer
Responsibilities: UX research, defining experience and interaction requirements, rapid prototyping, content strategy and writing.
Collaborators: Emily Tuteur (Lead Product Designer), Jordi Borras (Lead Industrial Designer), Andrew Tergis (Lead Hardware Engineer), Rochelle Lo (Digital Product Design), Yuko Osawa (Digital Product Design), Rowan Wernham (Digital Product Design).
As a product designer on this Kit, my role was to define the feature set of this Kit experience, and to develop a user journey for the physical product and the companion “Droid Inventor” app.
One of my main responsibilities was working with our “Kid Advisory Council”, a group of kids and parents who co-designed with us and provided feedback on our work over an 8-month period. My role involved creating testing plans, facilitating our play-test sessions, and consolidating feedback into actionable insights for various teams.
