CHEF iQ App

The CHEF iQ App is the partner app to the Smart Cooker™ that allows users to remotely control their appliance, cook along with guided recipes, and take the guesswork out of cooking just about any ingredient. The CHEF iQ app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play Store.

Project Scope: Redesign the CHEF iQ app to improve performance and features, enable adherence to brand guidelines, and establish consistency across UX/UI patterns and interactions.

Features

A recipe feed on the Home screen is updated every week by the in-house Culinary team at CHEF iQ, making it easy to never run out of breakfast, lunch, or dinner (or dessert) ideas. Every recipe is equipped with Guided Cooking, which not only gives a step-by-step walkthrough of how and what to prep, but also pairs the Smart Cooker™ to follow along with step-specific cook settings.

The Calculator provides a streamlined way of configuring the Smart Cooker™ to cook precise permutations of several hundreds of individual ingredients. The Favorites feature makes it possible to save ingredient-specific cooking parameters both on the app and directly on the Smart Cooker™, making quick work of household staples.

As a connected appliance, the Smart Cooker™ also receives regular firmware updates via the app, ever lengthening the lifespan of the product with ongoing feature improvements and additions.

Collaboration

Working with the Culinary team provided insight into the world of cooking knowledge and education. Close collaboration with the Software and Firmware teams provided the context for how to meet those user needs without compromising on technical or business requirements.

User-Centered

It was important to make sure that a recipe’s linear structure not conflict with the mostly non-linear experience that is cooking at home or for family (a predominant use-case of our user base). Features like Guided Cooking have been built with flexibility in mind, allowing users to pause at any given moment and jump ahead to whatever step they were last on.
